School has started!

As always we have a bunch to re-cap on from the past couple months. It was a really busy summer, going all over the place. I'll just try and hit a couple of the highlights.

We went up to Philadelphia one Sunday afternoon and I was able to show Dani where I grew up. It was a lot of fun. We were able to see a couple of sights, and spent a lot of the day with family. Went to the Philadelphia Museum of Art where the Rocky statue is. It was really neat driving up to it because you could see lots of tourists running up the steps just like Rocky.

Went to see the Liberty Bell and Independence Hall.

We went to Richmond, VA with Dani's cousin and saw some sights and ate some great pizza at a place called Bottoms Up.

Went to Williamsburg, VA.

Went to Annapolis, MD. It was a really cool.

Dani stayed with her Aunt Pat for a week when I went to Kansas City for a week. They went to a botanical garden and saw some family.

Dani went to six flags, some sights, and up to Atlantic City with her friends during the summer.

4th of July. We watched fireworks at the Washington Monument.

The Best Husband

Right now Jon is working hard to support our family and I am very thankful for that. I could not have ever asked for a better husband. Thank you Jonny for everything you do for me and for us.
I have gotten some time to spend with my family from California while Jon is out. It has been really good because I really only get to go home around Christmas every year. I've been down to Bear Lake to spend some time in the sun. It was perfect out. Yesterday my mom and I went around campus and explored the gardens. I had no idea how huge they were! So pretty. My friends Brynn and Bryce had us over for dinner which was so nice because the only thing in my fridge at the moment is baking yeast. Thanks Guys!
Tonight's Plans -- Getting shaved ice at the best place in town. Snowasis. Yummy. It won't be as good as Ritas! But I still love it.

Our New Place

Today I was sitting around, admiring our great new apartment. It reminds me of our place back home. Man, I hope our renters are being nice to it! This place has the same counter tops, kitchen floors, coloring, similar carpet and even green furniture! If we have to be across the county, away from our home, I am glad it still feels like home here. This is what you see when you first walk in! Ta-da! We have no decrations and it is not personalized at all but we still like it :)
The kitchen: where the real magic happens.

Our bedroom. **Thanks Pat for the bedding (and practically everything else in the place)!**

Finally my favorite... a vanity. It's pretty nice to get ready at!

Thanks for touring everything with me! There is still a special room with the biggest bed I've ever seen in my life but it deserves a post all to itself!

Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen

Jon and I, with some of our friends in DC, went to the 12:01 a.m. showing of Transformers 2. While Jon was working that afternoon, I watched the first one to refresh my mind. It was a lot of Transformers for one day! It wasn’t too packed when we got there. That was nice because at the Batman midnight showing last summer, the lines went out and around the building!

Jon had a difficult time staying awake. He had just finished a long day of knocking doors. Thanks for being such a hard worker baby. I tried nudging to keep him up until the end. It was a long movie.

Our evaluation of the movie is that it was pretty good. Both of us like the first one a lot more. We kept laughing at Megan Fox’s role in this one. Jon said all she did was run around with Shia. I thought it was funny that every shot of her was a slow motion close up with her eyes all intense.

But heck, if my eyes were as awesome as hers, I would flaunt them as much as I could too. It was a lot more comical than the first, almost forced tho. But the action was awesome and the story line was still fun. It was a fun night to be out with friends. When we got home at 3 a.m. we were ready for some serious sleeping!

Change of Plans

Last week Jon and I decided it would be better for us to leave Portland and try selling in a different place. It took us a while to decide where that place would be. Halfway to Provo we decided on coming to D.C. We are excited about this move. We have some great friends out here, and we are close to both of our families. Before we got on a plane to come back east, Jon and I spent some time with his family and some of our great friends.
Last Thursday we went to an outside theatre with James and Katy. The play we went to see is my all-time favorite Disney Movie: Beauty and the Beast. We had blankets and pizza, friends and music, pretty dresses and a hairy monster… what more could be ask for in a night? After the play we went and did a walk for cancer research to help Katy’s cousin. It was past one in the morning, but we had such a good time.
Jon and I had a chance to relax the next day (he played golf and I slept) so we were ready for our flight the next morning. It left early so we had to wake up at four a.m.! The flights were fine and we got to meet some pretty interesting people.

We are in DC now and are excited for the fun rest of the summer ahead of us!

Portland Rose Festival

Jon and I went to downtown Portland where they were having this big carnival and rose festival. It is a really big event in Portland so we were excited to go.

When we got there everything was in the stages of being packed up. We were sad because we just missed the tours of the naval battle ships! Even so, we still had a really fun time.

One of our favorite things there (it was free!) was a little zoo. It had all these exotic animals and disgusting snakes and stuff.

My favorite animal was the tiger. It has been a whole since I’ve been to a zoo, so I had forgotten how huge they were! No way would I ever want to be next to one in the wild jungle. Game over, I’d die… or just pee my pants.

One Year Anniversary

For our first ever anniversary, Jon and I wanted to go hiking up near some waterfalls in Oregon. Everyone we talked to about them said it was really neat. We were planning on going to a more popular spot called Multnomah Falls but it was so packed that the parking lot was backed up onto the freeway! We decided to go exploring instead of waiting forever. There were still tons of different places to discover. So we got onto the Historic Highway and drove until we found a spot that looked promising and much less crowded! The falls were called Horse Tail Falls, and they were so awesome.Jon and I didn't know if it was going to be a difficult hike or how long it would take to see any waterfalls. We just went for it, ready for an adventure.
The hike was a little tough at first. We were going up steep switchbacks for what seemed like a lifetime. Once we got to the top of those, however; things got a lot easier. Everything was so pretty. Lots of trees but lots of bugs. The view really was breathtaking. At one point, I got really close to the edge of a cliff to get a cool picture but Jon made me come back off of it! Smart man.
As we went along, we saw several waterfalls. At the third waterfall we found a spot to sit. We stopped and had a little picnic. Little bugs were trying to eat our food but besides them it was a perfect little moment.
We talked to some other hikers after our picnic and they told us that there really wasn’t anything further up the trail, so we turned around and headed back. The trip down took about half the time it took to get up! I couldn’t believe it.
Once we got home it was time to break out the well-traveled top tier of our wedding cake.
** A side note of our cakes travels ** My dad brought it up from California to Rexburg in a cooler. I took it down from Rexburg to Salt Lake in a cooler. Jon and I drove it up to Portland in a bowl of melted ice.
I had been letting it thaw out for a few days before. We were a little nervous because the frosting looked like chunky old milk. We ate it anyways. After all, it had traveled through four states so we could have it!
One year later and our wedding cake still tasted good!
All and all it was a wonderful day. Jon and I are just as much in love as ever and I couldn’t be happier.
